Chapter 2. Installation and Configuration Guide

The installation and configuration of Advanced Web Stats requires some technical knowledge and might seem elaborate, but this tutorial will help you to quickly get it up and running in order to start analyzing your website.

The installation and setup of Advanced Web Stats involves two phases:

  • The installation of Advanced Web Stats.

  • Post-installation setup. An intuitive wizard will guide you and prompt for information in order to get Advanced Web Stats up and running.

The following instructions will guide you through the installation and post-installation process.

Install Advanced Web Stats on Windows

The following instructions will help you to install Advanced Web Stats on Windows Operating Systems.

1. Getting started

Before starting the installation, it is recommended to follow the steps outlined below:

  1. It is important to have your Operating System up to date, so please run a Software Update first.

  2. Check the minimum system requirements and make sure that your system meets them.

2. Install Advanced Web Stats

To download the latest version of Advanced Web Stats please visit the Download section from our website.

When the download finishes and you open the installation file, the wizard that appears will install Advanced Web Stats on your computer.

During the installation wizard you need to set the Advanced Web Stats Installation directory into which the Advanced Web Stats files will be installed. By default it will be installed in the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Caphyon\Advanced Web Stats\

Advanced Web Stats comes with its own web server for administration and report delivery, and you need to enter the listen port number for this service. The default port should work on most of the Operating Systems, but if you have another application running which is using the same port, you can choose another one, between 1 and 65535.

To see the listening ports use the following command in command prompt:

netstat -an

The port forms part of the URL you will use to access Advanced Web Stats in your browser. For example, to access Advanced Web Stats with the default port, use the following address: http://localhost:8888

After you press the [Install] button, the Advanced Web Stats installer will begin the installation by extracting the files from the file you have downloaded, and copying them onto your computer. This operation may take several minutes.

3. Start Advanced Web Stats

When this operation finishes click the [Finish] button to start Advanced Web Stats in your browser.

Later you can access Advanced Web Stats by typing in the address bar of your favorite browser the following address:

http://localhost:8888

If you changed the listed port earlier you need to replace [8888] with the port specified.

4. Follow Post-installation process

On the Post-installation wizard you need to select the database, configure the email setting and the system administrator account. For more details and instructions about the post-installation process please read the Post-installation Guide.
